However, the people saw this as an act of treason and they attacked Gilgamesh. At this point, Gilgamesh went into exile with his cousin.The people were eventually defeated an d Gilgamesh was forced to wander the desert with his cousin. When they came across a well in the middle of the desert, they drank of it to gain immortality.This gave them both knowledge of how to live forever. Because of this, Gilgamesh realized that it was time for him to go back home. But the people of Uruk once again plotted against him and kidnapped him.After some time, Gilgamesh was rescued by Enkidu, who belonged to the tribe of the kings of Uruk. Together they journeyed across the land and eventually reached the walls of Uruk. There, they found an old man who bore a striking resemblance to Gilgamesh.
